The Social: A Southend Salon

Columbia Hillman Arts & Cultural Distict on FACEBOOK

A monthly, living room variety show, showcasing the dynamic talent of SE Seattle: Song, Music, Dance, Spoken word, Visual Art, and More. Brought to you by the Columbia-Hillman Arts and Cultural District, from a red couch in the 98118.

This FIRST Episode has an exceptional lineup, a mixture of incredible talent across the Rainier Valley. It includes:

Boka Kouyate and The Djeliyah Band (MUSIC) Eli Rosenblatt (MUSIC) Daemond Arindell (SPOKEN WORD/POETRY) Amaranta Ibarra (VISUAL ART) Jen Ayers (MUSIC) and Cipher Goings (DANCE)

**The Social was created in April amidst the throngs of COVID. And, in light of the current global protests for a much larger, historic pandemic, around racism and police brutality, we couldn't merely launch this series and stand idly by. And so, we hope that this monthly concert series can also serve as a place to rage, to heal, to rest, to inspire, to motivate.

We recognize that the Columbia Hillman Arts & Cultural District is on the traditional land of indigenous people. Today, we are proud to unite artist and creatives from the diverse communities that now call Columbia and Hillman Cities home - through authentic and inclusive arts.

To that end, we unequivocally know that Black Lives Matter. We firmly know that we must invest in our communities. We unquestionably know that Enough is Enough!

This month's theme for The Social is COMFORT/DISCOMFORT.
We've asked our artists to create works that reflect this theme, however they want to engage with it.

We will accept contributions. 80% will go directly to artists, and the remaining 20% will go to Black Lives Matter Seattle Freedom Fund for bail relief.

Last week while we were enjoying a family virtual happy hour on Zoom, my sister-in-law said, “you know, since most of us are hanging out all day in our pajamas, you should do a Pajama Party Performance for us.”

Sooooo, keep those pajamas on and tune in for the show. I'll be singing and playing a bunch of my favorite female artist’s songs in my pajamas! And some special guests/friends will be joining in on the fun (remotely of course) to sing a tune – also in their PJ’s!

I’ve decided to use this Friday’s Pajama Party to help raise money for THE ROYAL ROOM (my favorite neighborhood music venue here in Seattle!) and their unemployed staff. Rather than tipping me as a gesture of your appreciation, please consider donating to THE ROYAL ROOM if you are in a position to give:

For one night only, travel back to the 1970s and witness a full performance of the Fleetwood Mac and Rumours albums in their entirety! These classic albums will be (somewhat) faithfully rendered by an all-star cast of Northwest musicians:

Jen Ayers - Teatro Zinzanni, Honey Tongue

Kathy Moore - Brad, Thadillac, many more

Patrick R. Porter - Explone, Red Jacket Mine, Surf The Pines

Geoff Reading - Green Apple Quick Step, Loaded

Richard Davidson - Radio Nationals, Mopsey

Paul Hiraga - Downpilot

Between 1975 and 1978, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham transformed Fleetwood Mac from English blues legends to all-time pop icons, creating some of the most enduring and beautifully crafted music ever put to tape. In the album oriented spirit of the material, both records will be performed in order, from front to back.

Wild Rumours - A Fleetwood Mac Experience

Jazzbones, 2803 6th Ave, Tacoma, WA

Wild Rumours coalesced around the concept of performing entire albums, faithfully and in sequence. Unlike other tribute bands who take a “greatest hits” approach, the core of a Wild Rumours show is a full performance of both the 1975 Fleetwood Mac and 1978 Rumours albums in their entirety. This allows the audience to experience two of the greatest pop albums of the era just as they originally heard them (minus the record scratches and 8-track tape reversing). The band, comprised of an all-star cast of Northwest musicians, supplements this centerpiece with other hit songs from the FM catalog, as interludes and encores to the show.
